This is my version of “knock off” stroganoff. You can make this on a budget with stuff you probably always have on hand, with no special trips too the grocery store. All that’s in it is ground beef, cream of mushroom soup, pasta, milk, and water. Salt & pepper can of course be added to taste. This is also a better tasting alternative to Hamburger Help’s stroganoff flavor, there’s no mystery ingredients involved and you can control everything that goes into it.
My photo shows carrots as well because 1) I had them in the fridge already and they needed using, and 2) I always try to add some sort of veggie to the meal and if I can do it all in one pot even better, so feel free to slip in some veggies into this one pot-meal.

This is a fast, easy "knock off" stroganoff. Very quick to make and tasty too!
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 oz dry pasta (I used penne)
- 1 14 oz can cream of mushroom soup
- 2 cups milk (I used whole)
- 1 cup water
- salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- Start off by cooking your ground beef. When its cooked, drain the excess fat that has cooked off.
- Return beef to heat, and add pasta, water, milk, and cream of mushroom soup. Increase flame to high.
- When liquids start to boil, reduce heat to a low simmer, and cover. Stir frequently to avoid sticking. Season with salt and pepper as desired.
- When liquid is mostly absorbed and thickened and pasta is cooked, plate and serve.
